Preparing for and planning a wedding is a monumental task, as anyone who's had the pleasure of doing it knows. There are so many details, some critical and some of lesser importance, that need to be taken care of that it takes months and months of work to get it all pulled together. One thing that a prospective pair can do to help both themselves in the long run, as well as the guests at their wedding, is to sign up for a wedding registry.

In the past, wedding registry was much less commonly done; mostly only families that were better off would use them. It was seen by some as a bit presumptuous to have the bride and groom picking out their own gifts even before their wedding! However, now wedding registries are seen much more as a convenience for the couple, as well as their friends and family.

Also, there will not be the need for them to return three irons, two toasters, egg timers and all the other gifts that people would give them if they're left to guess.

The guests usually appreciate some guidance in knowing what exactly the couple needs or what their tastes are. No one likes the thought of giving a gift that the couple will not find useful, or will even roll their eyes at and return to the store, for whatever reason. Purchasing a gift that's on a wedding registry takes the guess work out of purchasing, and you can still something that YOU like for them, but you can do it knowing that they will like it, too.

While putting together a wedding registry certainly takes time and consideration, it can be a wonderful part of the planning for sharing your life with the person you love.
